BASKETBALL

Our season started off with the usual pep and vim of the Modale Athletes and Rooters, the first game being held at Blencoe against the Blencoe heavies. Evans tossed the only looper in the first quarter, giving us a 2-0 lead. This gave the Blencoites a little excitement, and they started using their weight to win the game. They did win, but won no glories. We must also mention the backing we had was the best we ever had at an out-of-town game.
Mondamin came to Modale to give us our second workout. This game was a little trifling on the Modallians' nerves. We lacked the usual punch, but the loss of the game did not discourage one member of the squad.
Beebetown paid us our third visit. The outcome of this game was a decided victory to the home team.
Sioux followed with a game of most equally matched playing on our home floor. Neither Sioux nor Modale could get the lead until the last quarter, when a little perseverance lacked in our guards, giving Soo several nets and the lead which Modale failed to overcome.
We returned Mondamin's visit the following week and came home with no honors.
The trip to Magnolia just before the holidays was not as successful as we had expected, although we did not have over-confidence. Nor did we have it at any other game. The Mag. Town center played with horseshoes and won the game for them.
Following the holidays Beebetown again came back to Modale for more. This gave our most noble and patient coach a chance to give a few bench-warmers a little experience. The game being played with practically all green men. It was a success,-I mean this game was a success.
Modale played Magnolia at the Mo. Valley Tournament. This game was by far the most exciting game played this year. The spectators, besides the Modale rooters, were for our gang. Our team displayed the best sportmanship, perseverance, and consistency ever shown in our basketball history. The last quarter started with a 1 5—7 score favoring Modale. The game ended with a tie.  19-19. An extra period being played ended with a lead on Magnolias part 22-21.
The last trip and counting game was at the Harlan Tournament,  Modale vs. Hancock. We were beaten by the winners of the tournament, so we did not stiffer any disgrace. Outside of the game the team enjoyed a great deal of sporting and courting around tile magnificent city of Harlan.
Before ending I must relate the exciting game with the Rufnex of the town of Modale.
They displayed good sportsmanship and good playing, considering the amount of training they have received since leaving school. They came out on the short end of the score. giving another
victory to the High School.
