DEDICATION

In this little book we have attempted to put the best of ourselves and our school. Knowing that that best is more largely the direct result of the norm established by the President of our School Board than any other single thing; that his education, sympathy, ideals, and unstinted efforts in tithe and energy toward the solution of the many problems that must be solved has brought the correct solution to those problems; that his foresight and rigid adherence to those ideals is showing the rightness of his position in regard to these problems in the only true test we have, the test of time, we dedicate this High School Annual, the "MOCOSCAN," to the President of our School Board, Mr. E. E. McFerrin, in the hope that it may in a measure prove the success of his efforts and time. It is ever the hope that future copies may have the opportunity of a like dedication.

THE MOCOSCAN

From time immemorial it has been the custom of man as he travels along life’s highway, to set up sign posts, blaze trees, establish roads, leave histories including stories of incidents in the lives they lived.  Following that good and ancient custom, we, the Senior class of the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred and twenty-seven, endeavoring to leave along life’s highway and this educational highway in particular, have caused to come into being this MOCOSCAN, that it may serve as a guide post, blaze a tree, establish a pathway or be a history of one of the most notable incidents in our life’s history.
Most of our life’s ideals are derived from the home, as taught by our father or mother.  Today, competition demands that parents expend a larger portion of their energies in providing the necessities and leaves to the church, school, and state a greater share of the task of teaching ideals, as proved by the time and energy we have given toward the construction of this book.  We hope that it is a fitting example of that teaching.  We hope that it will be a true guide post, an easily recognized blaze, a speedway and glorious history of glorious class, the Seniors of nineteen twenty-seven.  May it be a precedent worthy the name, a norm by which each of the following graduating classes will measure and be measured, and may the ideals taught by the Modale High School bear rich fruit and bring life-long happiness to each and every one who come under its influence.
